Fallingwater has set a goal to become a model site that operates sustainably using recognized best practices with minimal environmental impact.  Listed below are some examples of the efforts we are undertaking to do our part to make the world a better place for all of us.

 

  • Recylce waste water for flushing and drip irrigation across the site
  • Use glassware, china and stainless untensils in the cafe to reduce paper waste
  • Use of recyclable or compostable beverage containers
  • On-site composting bin
  • Installed high efficiency boilers for the main house and guest house
  • Replaced inefficient gasoline maintenance trucks with smaller more fuel efficient units
  • Computerize control for heating, A/C and lighting in visitor center and other buildings
  • Recycle packaging products at the museum store
  • Offer reusable shopping bags
  • Use green cleaning products
  • Office paper recycling and re-use
  • Simply Green workshop for student participants in Wright in Our Backyard
  • Changed mowed areas of the property to reduce gasoline usage
  • Increased use of fluorescent lighting
  • Battery recycling
  • Redesigned parking areas that use less paving, strategically located plantings and bioswales to control storm water run-off
  • Use eco-friendly PPG paints products with zero VOC, very low odor and Green Seal Class A Certification
