Before you begin your tour, please be aware of the following:
There is considerable walking involved. Walking shoes are a must.
Fallingwater is not air-conditioned.
There are no public restrooms in Fallingwater. Please use the facilities at the Visitor Center before beginning your tour.
MOBILITY: There is a 1/4 mile gradual downhill walk on gravel from the Visitors Center to Fallingwater. Limited shuttle service to and from the house is available for visitors who are unable to make this walk. Please ask at the Visitor Center desk for this service when you are assigned to a tour group. Fallingwater is a multi-storied house with more than 100 steps during the tour. Visitors using wheelchairs may visit the first floor of the house. Wheelchairs must be able to fit through a 28" doorway to access the first floor. A 3-D film tour of the upper floors is available at the Visitors Center. Additional information for visitors using wheelchairs is available by calling Visitor Services at 724-329-8501.
While some arrangements may be made for the comfort of visitors with limited mobility, visitors must be able to walk and stand during most of the tour.
HEARING: If you have a hearing impairment, the competing sounds of the falls and nature may make it difficult for you to hear your guide and enjoy the tour. Assisted listening devices (ALD) are available at no cost to help you better hear and understand the tour guides. Please let our staff know if you’d like to use an ALD and we will have one ready for you.
For persons who suffer from profound hearing loss, we can arrange for a sign-language interpreter to conduct a tour at no extra charge. For scheduling purposes, we require a minimum advance notice of two weeks. In addition, a booklet describing the rooms of the house is available at the Visitor Center.
VISION: If you have a vision impairment, we can arrange for a more descriptive tour that allows some "light" touching of selected objects in the house. Please make arrangements in advance when booking your tour, so that we may have a qualified guide available.
