Frank Lloyd Wright did not live in southwestern Pennsylvania, but his work can be seen in more homes than just Fallingwater.
Day One
Start your Laurel Highlands get-away with a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater. Choose from the regular one hour tour or one of the late afternoon In-depth or Sunset Tours. Leave Fallingwater with a sense of renewal and choose of the many fine local restaurants located within a short drive for a relaxing dinner. As the sun sets over the mountains, travel to a nearby lodging destination of your choice for a well deserved night’s rest.
Day Two
Begin the day with a morning tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Kentuck Knob. Built for I. N. and Bernadine Hagan in the mid-1950’s, the house has been preserved by current owner Lord Peter Palumbo and is an excellent example of Wright’s Usonian architecture.
The village of Ohiopyle is a great place to enjoy lunch at one of the many local eateries. While in town take a relaxing stroll along the river or a more vigorous hike on one of the many trails located within Ohiopyle State Park or along the Great Allegheny Passage.
Leave Ohiopyle and travel north on PA Route 381 enjoying the scenery along the federally designated Scenic Byway, as you head toward Donegal and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Duncan House at Polymath Park. Recently relocated to the Laurel Highlands, the Duncan House is another example of Wright’s Usonian design. Also located at Polymath Park are two houses designed by Wright apprentice, Peter Berenstein.
A short drive from Polymath Park will take you to the PA Turnpike and on your way home.
