Travel Sketching Workshop with Ivan Chow

Ivan Chow - Fallingwater Artist in ResidenceFallingwater and its site will serve as both subject and classroom during this weekend workshop, led by 2019 Fallingwater Institute Artist-in-Residence Ivan Chow.

Learn Chow’s travel sketching technique during en plein air lessons and studio exercises designed to help you improve your observational drawing skills as well as your ability to use watercolor and a combination of wet and dry drawing media. Enjoy exceptional access to Fallingwater as you practice creating pictorial compositions and rendering form with color, line and tone.

Appropriate for all levels of artists, but participants must be 18 or older.

Ivan Chow was born in England, grew up in Singapore and has worked in the U.S. as an artist and architect for more than 30 years. He has practiced the art of travel sketching throughout the world as a lens through which to observe and appreciate different cultures and people, and his style of sketching beautifully captures the atmosphere and character of local scenes. Ivan has degrees in architecture from UC Berkeley and Harvard Graduate School of Design and was a former dean at the Savannah College of Art and Design.  He has three grown children and has lives with his wife in Savannah, Georgia. Ivan Chow Sketch: Fallingwater in AutumnFacilities

Participants will stay at High Meadow, an award-winning residence designed by AIA Gold Medalist architect Peter Bohlin, founding principal of the firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson.  The property is situated within the 5,100-acre Bear Run Nature Reserve, adjacent to Fallingwater. High Meadow includes eight bedrooms, each with twin beds and a private bath as well as a kitchen and common areas for relaxing, dining and meeting. High Meadow’s setting, with its unsurpassed views of nearby Chestnut Ridge, is bound to inspire creativity.

Some activities will be held at the adjacent Cheteyan Studio, and on-site at Fallingwater. All meals are provided.
