Luis Vidal

Luis Vidal is founder and president of luis vidal + architects, a Madrid-based global architecture practice with offices in Europe, Chile, the Dominican Republic, and the United States. He has designed more than 200 projects at all scales, including more than 30 airport projects, among them “The Queen’s Terminal” at London Heathrow Airport, named World’s Best Airport Terminal, World Best Public Building, and the world’s first airport terminal to be awarded the BREEAM Excellent rating for its sustainable design.
For Pittsburgh, Vidal served as the vision and concept design architect for the new international terminal, slated to open in October 2025. His design focuses on integrating nature, technology, and community, reflecting the region’s unique identity and commitment to innovation. During this Fireside conversation, Vidal will discuss his vision for Pittsburgh’s new terminal and the ideals and values that guide his practice.
Luis Vidal graduated with honours in Architecture from the University of Greenwich. He is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the American Institute of Architects of New York (AIA NY) and the College of Architects of Madrid (COAM). Vidal established luis vidal + architects in 2004, a global architecture practice that has received over 50 international awards, including recognition from Skytrax, AIA, RIBA and Chicago Athenaeum, for the implementation of challenging and innovative ideas in projects of various typologies. He is a guest professor at the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London and has lectured at Carnegie Mellon University and the Altius Society in Oxford, among others.
