Insight/Onsite: Creating and Collaging from Memory with Jameelah Platt

Fallingwater Institute Artist-in-Residence, Jameelah Platt, invites emerging and established creatives, especially BIPOC artists, to join her for a creative retreat at Fallingwater. Join Platt for a series of guided studio explorations designed to energize your creative practice with time spent immersed in nature, reflection and personal storytelling. Gather inspiration from the Kaufmann family’s country house while working alongside a creative cohort. This workshop is perfect for artists of all ability levels who are interested in personal meaning-making. Lodging, meals, transportation, artist tools and materials provided.

Today, Fallingwater Institute’s artist-in-residence program hosts exceptional artists, scholars, and creatives from around the world whose presence on site, creative practice, and original work enrich our experience and understanding of Fallingwater.

About the Instructors

Jameelah Platt

Fallingwater Institute Artist-in-Residence, Jameelah Platt, is an interdisciplinary artist with a primary focus on painting and collage. She is a Pittsburgh native who studied fine art and film at the University of the Arts. Platt has presented solo exhibitions at the Pittsburgh Center for Art & Media, Assemble, the Mr. Roboto Project and presented mural work for the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. She has also exhibited with the Free Expression Project, the Brewhouse Association, Museum Lab, University of Pittsburgh: Center for African American Poetry and Poetics, Seton Hill University’s Harlan Gallery, The Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia. Platt participated in the 2019 Freshworks artist residency hosted by the Kelly Strayhorn Theatre & Dance Alloy and is currently inresidence at the BrewHouse Artist Association. 

Facilities

Participants will stay on the property at High Meadow, the Fallingwater Institute’s residency facility designed by AIA Gold Medalist architect Peter Bohlin, who is the founding principal of the firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson.  This property is situated adjacent to Fallingwater, and includes eight bedrooms, each with a private bath. This secluded site is surrounded by an amazing view of the Bear Run Nature Reserve – the 5,100-acre natural area that is home to Fallingwater.

Studio activities are held at the Cheteyan Studio at High Meadow, and on site at Fallingwater. This is a casual and natural learning environment where daily activities can inspire great things! All meals are provided.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to participate.

Emerging and established artists of all media are welcome to apply.

Program Sessions

September 19 - September 21, 2025

Tuition

$500 per person, plus 6% service fee. Tuition includes lodging, meals, art materials, studio supplies, tour tickets, and exceptional access to Fallingwater.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

If you cancel your registration for a one-day workshop any time up to 30 days before the day of the program, you will receive a refund minus a $25 processing fee.

If you cancel your registration for a multi-day program (residencies, Insight/Onsite, etc.) any time up to 30 days before the first day of the program, you will receive a refund minus a $50 processing fee and a $150 cancellation fee.

If you cancel less than 30 days before the first day of a Fallingwater Institute program, refunds are not available.
