Fallingwater offers summer internship opportunities for college and graduate students interested in careers related to the site’s many departments.
Each year, interns complete hands-on projects relevant to their area of specialization while working closely with supervisors, colleagues and volunteers in their host department. Fallingwater strongly encourages applications from students who are members of groups underrepresented in careers related to its mission.

ICOMOS/Modernism Week Preservation Internship
Preservation Interns work directly with Fallingwater’s preservation, collections and maintenance departments as well as visiting consultants and vendors on various projects that seek to deepen the understanding of Fallingwater’s operation as a modern house museum and site on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Supported by Modernism Week, this internship is open to international students participating in the ICOMOS-USA International Exchange Program.

Working under the supervision of the Senior Director of Preservation and Collections and the Collections Manager and Archivist, the Collections Intern will assist in organizing, inventorying, accessioning, and rehousing our large collection of unprocessed books. The Intern will also update our collection management system with relevant and up-to-date information related to our objects and art collection. If time permits, the Intern will also select a sub-collection from within the archives as a focused summer project. Their selection will be based on diversity of content and will be of a size and scope that can be completed during the allotted time.

This is a unique opportunity to help promote and share the importance of Fallingwater, a renowned architectural site on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This internship will enhance your skills and build experience in the fields of social media, digital communications, photography, videography and public relations. The intern will work in collaboration with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s Communications Department on various social media projects to help promote Fallingwater and create content to engage current fans and followers.

The landscape internship (2 positions available) will consist of outdoor work for the Fallingwater grounds and the completion of a project that combines design work and hands-on work. The interns will work independently and alongside the Fallingwater Horticulturist to complete their projects and implement improvements to the landscape.

Aseel Al-Khdairat

2026 ICOMOS/Modernism Week Preservation Intern
“This experience was an inspiring opportunity to immerse myself in architecture, historic preservation, and nature. Living beside Fallingwater was exceptional, and having the opportunity to visit the house every day and in different times made the experience even more meaningful. Each time I learned something new about the house’s design or its preservation, I returned with fresh eyes and a deeper appreciation, discovering new perspectives and details with every visit.”
Originally from Irbid, Jordan, Aseel holds a degree in architecture from the Jordan University of Science and Technology and recently earned a master’s degree in historic preservation from the University of Texas at Austin. Her research explores the connections between architecture, historic preservation, architectural history and memory.

2026 Fawcett Digital Multimedia Intern
“I loved reading books featuring Frank Lloyd Wright as a kid, and was always in awe of Fallingwater. Being able to work here every day for the summer surrounded by such beautiful nature was very inspiring to me. As a designer I learned how to structure my creative process around how nature informs design and can accentuate the environment without harming it.”
Joyce is a fourth-year communication design student at the University of Cincinnati with a passion for visual storytelling, photography and the outdoors. Whether she’s climbing at Red River Gorge, hiking to mountain summits or exploring new places with her camera, Joyce loves connecting with people through meaningful images.

“Through the many books in the Fallingwater collections, I have gotten to know the Kaufmanns—the character of their notes and doodles, what inspired them, and how their house holds these details and continues to share them every day. It has been a wonder to evolve my archival thoughts & processes and tune into my own inspiration alongside the Kaufmanns and the remarkable support and spirit of the staff at Fallingwater.”
A recent graduate of Simmons University with master’s degrees in library science and history, Kaycee is passionate about lifelong learning and believes that greater understanding fosters empathy and compassion.

2026 MSC AmeriCorps Land Steward Bear Run Nature Reserve Intern
“Serving as the land Steward in Bear Run Nature Reserve was a fantastic opportunity to help preserve and maintain a small portion of trails and ecology in the larger Laurel Highlands area. Bear Run is a small parcel of land, but one with significant native ecological importance. Serving as its land steward was something I did with pride. Outside of that work, I was given the chance to meet many new and interesting people of varying backgrounds, learn about their lives, and then cook for them. Both are opportunities that do not arise often.”
I am a 20-year-old student looking to go into the Parks and Resource Management program at Slippery Rock. I have a strong passion for backpacking and general outdoor recreation.

2026 Katherine Mabis McKenna Foundation Landscape Intern
“I am incredibly grateful for my experience at Fallingwater. Coming into this internship, I had little to no understanding of what it meant to plant and maintain a native natural landscape. Now I not only have a broader knowledge of planting design, but also working with a project from the initial concept to implementation. This internship taught me so much about how to manage projects, and work with the landscape all while learning about native plants and exploring the natural world.”
Currently serving as the sustainability education programs assistant at the Marsal School of Education’s Center for Education Design, Evaluation and Research at the University of Michigan, Odera brings a passion for environmental justice and inclusive design to her work.

A Pennsylvania native, Teagan is studying health and physical education at Saint Vincent College. She brings a passion for teaching, wellness and connecting people with meaningful experiences. Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time outdoors and balancing her active lifestyle with her love of sports and art.

“Within my bachelors of interior design and my current masters of landscape architecture, it has been my main goal as a designer to blend the built environment with nature. I am greatly inspired by and admirative of Fallingwater and Frank Lloyd Wright’s design initiatives, and am honored to have had the opportunity to work here. Within our projects, considering visitor and employee experiences while maintaining this connection between the built environment and nature has been the design experience of a lifetime. I am so grateful to have been able to learn from the team at Fallingwater, and contribute to the design and place that continues to inspire.”
Throughout her life, Willow has been deeply interested in and inspired by nature. As a designer, her goal is to bridge the gap between the built environment and nature, and contribute to a more sustainable future where people feel more connected to the environments they inhabit.
